Movement & Wellbeing

Walking, mobility, strength and rest — moving through the day with ease rather than effort.

Movement philosophy

Movement is not a punishment for eating or a test of willpower. It is how a body stays curious, capable and free.

The essentials

Mobility, strength & walking

Three everyday practices that support each other.

Daily

The foundation: daily walks, longer weekend walks and walking as a way to explore a new place.

Daily

Short sequences to keep hips, spine and shoulders moving — at home, on the road or in a van.

Weekly

Simple strength work, two or three times a week, to stay strong and independent for decades.

Walking

Walk first

Walking is free, social and possible almost anywhere. Start where you are: ten minutes after a meal, then a little more. On the road, walking is also the best way to discover a new neighbourhood or village.

Mobility

Keep moving parts moving

A few minutes of gentle mobility each morning — spine, hips, shoulders, ankles — can make long drives, flights and desk days easier. No equipment needed.

Strength

Strength for independence

Carrying bags, lifting a suitcase into a van, getting up from the floor: everyday strength matters more as we get older. Short bodyweight or band sessions are a good place to start.

Pilates & other practices

Pilates, yoga and more

Pilates, yoga, swimming and dance all have a place in Asalas — choose what you enjoy and can sustain. [List the practices Karima uses and recommends.]

Rest & recovery

Recovery is part of the practice

Sleep, rest days and gentle evenings let the body adapt. Asalas treats rest as a skill: a regular bedtime, light in the morning, a warm drink and a slower evening on the days you need it.

  • Keep a regular rhythm for sleep and waking
  • Plan at least one easy day each week
  • Listen to fatigue, pain and illness — and seek advice when needed

A small daily ritual: mint tea

In Morocco, tea is welcome, pause and conversation. How a simple pot of mint tea can become an everyday Asalas ritual.

A note on health

Asalas shares lifestyle practices, cultural traditions and personal experience. It is not medical, nutritional or psychological advice and does not replace a qualified professional. Check with your doctor before changing your diet or starting a new exercise routine — especially if you are pregnant, have a health condition or take medication.
